How to Finish the Floor of Basement

After you've finished the basement walls, you can go on to finishing the basement floors. Waterproof materials should be used for flooring to avoid damage from the inevitable flood or leak in any basement.

Subflooring and Flooring

If you're using snap-together flooring, you can lay it directly on the concrete subfloor as long as it's level and moisture-free. Building a new subfloor out of plywood and polystyrene sheets, or at the absolute least building a moisture barrier, is a better solution.

As the initial stage in completing your basement floor, install a new basement subfloor:

Apply glue on sheets of polystyrene insulation in the same manner as you did when insulating the walls.

Hardwood layers must be covered with a layer of the insulators. Using your masonry drill and concrete studs, attach the new subfloor.

Then, according to your flooring type, follow the installation directions. Your rebuilt basement should take shape once the flooring and drywall are completed.
